I believe the 2.0 TDI does indeed use a timing belt. It's the gasoline engines that use the timing chain. But even the chains have problems with stretching and requires replacement after around 100K miles. Google Audi A5 2.0 TDI timing belt change. 198 posts · Joined 2012. #2 · Jun 3, 2014. There's a serpentine belt at the front of the engine that runs the alternator, aircon and I'm not sure what else. It's not a big deal to get that replaced. It is indeed a cam chain at the back of the engine on the 3.0 TDi and should never need replacing unless you have a major problem.
